Street Photography

Sunday 28 June
Lincoln St - 6:30pm - 2.0 Hours
Kimberly Waters
People, cafes, vendors, street merchants, buskers, historic buildings, art installations and much more. The power of observation underpins the art of great street photography. Learning to "see" interesting detail is a practised skill and we introduce you to easy methods that will open your photographer's eye and expose you to a world that is alive with detail. The most rewarding part of the class is learning how to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you. We will also go over settings, focusing techniques and lens choices common to street photography to help us capture those random chance encounters.

I enjoy the time with Kimberly. I learned a lot about the settings on my camera and how they affect the outcome of the photos I take. I appreciate her patience when helping to figure out a specific setting on all of our cameras. I look forward to taking another small group class with her.

This get together sharing ideas, poses, and practicing with others was fun and informative! It was relaxed so that everyone felt accepted to share input, ideas, questions, etc. We practiced a lot of portrait photography on one another using different backgrounds with changing light before sunset. I learned more features of my camera and lens with suggestions to make the most of my equipment for portrait photography. This is my third session with Kimberly, and I leave every time with at least one very key lesson to apply as I am still at the beginning of this journey.

This was my favorite photography group session and had specific instruction I was trying to practice. I thought my f4 lens would be too limited for depth of field, but Kimberly Waters shared some photos with the settings and showed me that my lens would take great photos and capture depth of field well. Since the beginning photography group session, I have forced myself to follow those instructions and shoot in manual mode while watching my light meter for adjustments. I am much more confident and can tell that I am making progress in this new hobby with my new camera!

    Kimberly Waters
Kimberly was born and raised in the Midlands of South Carolina. She is a mother of a teenage daughter who shares her love for photography. Kimberly has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design and Media Arts, with many of the courses taken being photography-related. She has a decades-long passion for photography that began with 35mm disposable cameras and a Polaroid and has grown from there. Back then, she mostly took pictures of scenic views, architecture, wildlife, and her other passion, horses. After becoming a mom, it became clear that she wanted to capture not only her child's milestones but also those of others. These days, she primarily shoots lifestyle, portrait, equine, and sports photography. Kimberly enjoys sharing her love for photography with others and hopes to provide insight, knowledge, and an enjoyable experience to everyone.

This is an oldie, from 8 years ago, of my daughter for a Valentine's shoot. My skills have come a long way since, but I still love this, though. Now she prefers to be behind the camera like her mom. :-)

This image is a Still Life Composition of "Berries, Wine and Grapes" that I created on a rainy day in my bedroom. I used no fancy Studio Lighting at all. My only light source was a hand-held flashlight that I kept moving rapidly. It was an experiment in Light Painting when I couldn't go outside to shoot.
