Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Columbia .

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Columbia Photography Group on Facebook to share your photos after the session.

Jacob was fantastic! He introduced important information while also addressing all of our many questions.
Great event. Jacob was knowledgeable and went over so many aspects of the camera. I learned a lot!
    Always a great class!

The event was just what I was looking for to expand my portfolio. The host/models were friendly and professional.
This was a really fun event! Kalief is always fun and informative!
This was an excellent learning experience. Our Instructor Kai was very knowledgeable, patient and attentive. I learned a lot and am looking forward to the nextclass

Very welcoming. Now I just need to speak up and ask more questions. I hope to learn a lot from this group.
Kalief Robinson guided us through a wide number of shooting locations and posing ideas with a very capable model Carly Siegel. It was great to be introduced to the spaces that we can return to if we have the opportunity to take portraits on our own.
A very enjoyable event! Kai was generous, insightful and willing to assist with our many questions regarding lighting, distance and our interaction with the talent. Both the talent and my co-photographers were a very pleasant group to work with. I can highly recommend taking this workshop!

Had a great time. Kalif was very knowledgeable, let us do our own thing, but was right there if anyone had questions. Even threw out the settings he was using to help those just learning their system. He had challenges for each shoot, which helped us push our creativity to the next level.

I enjoyed getting together with others to practice some skills. It was a good time and worth the very reasonable cost.

Title or Location: Bobcat in the Shadows - Boyd Island Nature Sanctuary
I had been to the Saluda River many times, but I never ventured along the trail far enough to reach Boyd Island. I was in awe of the peaceful atmosphere and the many interesting metal sculptures along the path. This bobcat sculpture was one of them- I barely noticed it in the shadows, prowling along the rocks.

For 2 weeks every winter Sydney is lit up with amazing colours and beams of light over the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, and various buildings throughout the city. I captured this photo of the Opera House from across the water at the Overseas Passenger Terminal. I used a slow shutter speed (of 1 sec) to capture light trails from the passing water craft, and I held my iPhone up against my lens to create an artificial reflection on the water.Canon R6ii, RF 70-200mm f2.8 (@ 70mm), 1s, iso 200.

The Superstion Mountains were named Monte Superstition by Spanish conquistadors who arrived in the 1540s. Greedy for gold, they tried to get local Apaches to show them where it was however, believing the area was home to the God of Thunder, they refused for fear of angering him. This photo is one I took in september 2023. On this night I captured quite a few different photos and perspectives of the milky way over and around the bridge. My goal on this evening was to take full advantage of the position of the milky way as there are very few opportunities that you can photograph the milky way positioned near the bridge during the year. I found this photo with other ones from that night I had not edited. Astro photography needs conditions to be right in relation to moon,
